core

Budget & transactions

  • Month view: income, expenses, and balance for the selected month
  • Day card: each calendar day shows all entries; income and expenses listed separately with a daily total at the bottom
  • Transactions: add, edit, delete; notes and dates
  • Categories: organize spending; category breakdown in the app
  • Split payments: divide an expense between people
  • VAT helper: built-in VAT calculation on transactions
  • Recurring bills: reminders for bills due (e.g. within 7 days); customizable frequency; skips public holidays automatically
  • Category spending limits: set a monthly cap per category; progress bar turns amber at 80%, red at 100%
  • Public holiday calendar: 46 countries, 2024–2030; holidays shown in your language, recurring payments skip them
  • SQLite on your machine: no account, no cloud sync from us

  • Live exchange rates: 50+ fiat currencies (fetched when you enable online rates)
  • Per-transaction currency: record amounts in different currencies in one budget
  • Optional crypto symbols: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, BNB, and XRP via CoinGecko (optional; requests from your computer)

  • Dashboard: month-at-a-glance view of where money went
  • Category charts: visual breakdown by category
  • Monthly trends: spending patterns over time
  • Monthly report: overview, top spending categories, top income sources, crypto activity, multi-month trends, shortfall forecast, optimization hints, and categorization suggestions; all computed locally from your data
  • Yearly report: full-year summary, month-by-month cash flow, top categories and income, one-off expenses, and insights; runs without AI
  • No AI required: all reports and charts run on data you already entered; AI adds a narrative layer on top if you want it

AI insights (optional)

  • Monthly insight: optional narrative summary from your entered data
  • Bring your own key: OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Groq, DeepSeek, Gemini, Mistral, or compatible APIs
  • Local models: Ollama and other on-device inference; no key sent to us
  • Skip entirely: app is fully usable with charts only

Export & backup

  • Export formats: Excel (.xlsx), HTML, CSV, and JSON
  • Automatic backups: snapshot on every launch (max once per 12 h); stored in your app support folder
  • Custom backup folder: choose any local directory; backups copied there automatically
  • One-click restore: restore from any saved backup in Settings; takes effect on next launch
  • Your file, your disk: uninstalling does not delete your DB unless you remove it
security

Privacy & security

  • PIN lock: set a PIN stored in your system keychain (macOS Keychain / system keyring); brute-force throttling after 5 failed attempts
  • Auto-lock: lock on inactivity (1 / 5 / 15 / 30 min or never) or immediately when the window loses focus or is minimized
  • SQLCipher encryption: database encrypted at rest; transparent one-time migration on first launch; status visible in Settings
  • No telemetry: no analytics, no crash reporting sent anywhere by default

  • Custom fonts: separate font choices for UI, numeric values, and headings; each theme has curated defaults
  • UI scale: adjustable global size; useful on high-density displays
  • Hover effects: tilt, parallax, wobbly, glow, lift, glitch on day cards
  • Delete animations: dissolve, swipe-off, fold, burn, vortex
  • Modal animations: iris, sheet, genie, magic-lamp, page-curl
  • Navigation animations: page-flip, slide-parallax between months
  • Ambient effects: optional canvas overlays: rain, snow, clouds, sun, matrix

Platform, languages & polish

  • Desktop builds: macOS, Windows, and Linux from one codebase (Tauri)
  • 47 UI languages: choose language in app settings (this website is English only)
  • Dark mode: interface tuned for daily use
  • Keyboard shortcuts: navigate months, add transactions, open AI, settings, search; press ? in the app for the list
  • System tray: macOS and Windows tray icon; click to show the app without switching apps
  • Global shortcut: ⌘⇧B / Ctrl+Shift+B brings Budget Cards to front from anywhere
  • In-app feedback (Settings → Feedback): report bugs or suggest improvements from inside the app
  • Beta pricing: free during beta; one-time household license planned later (no subscription)
